We went in today for genetic screening tests, which consisted of an ultrasound and a blood draw (well, it was really a finger prick, but I am allowed to be over dramatic). Here is what Little Peanut looks like at 13 weeks and 5 days. The NT test, which stands for nuchal translucency, measures the clear space that is filled with fluid at the back of the neck. The more fluid, the greater the chance of the baby having some abnormalities. The blood test looks for high amounts of certain hormones that correspond with developmental abnormalities. The tech said the NT measurements look normal. We have to wait on the blood test results.
Little Peanut (LP) looks so much like a baby now. The difference from our last ultrasound and this one is amazing. LP even moved right at the beginning, kind of a little flinch. In some of the pics it looks like LP is reading a book (truly my child)....or a Sports Illustrated magazine (that's all Nitesh). Even a fetus has to keep up with the football stats.
The next time we get to see the baby will be at the anatomy scan in about 4-5 weeks, at which time, if LP cooperates, we will find out the sex!
FYI: During pregnancy the uterus increases in weight from 1 oz to more than 2 pounds, more than 360 times its original weight!
